Les parents ne font que transmettre leur constitution g\u00e9n\u00e9tique. Ils doivent \u00eatre s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s sur la base de leur valeur g\u00e9n\u00e9tique plut\u00f4t que sur leurs performances ou caract\u00e8res observ\u00e9s. Les caract\u00e8res pertinents pour l'\u00e9levage des vaches laiti\u00e8res sont influenc\u00e9s par plusieurs g\u00e8nes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chaque descendant re\u00e7oit une moiti\u00e9 de ses g\u00e8nes du p\u00e8re et l'autre moiti\u00e9 de la m\u00e8re. Comme un parent ne transmet pas le m\u00eame ensemble de g\u00e8nes \u00e0 tous ses veaux, il existe des diff\u00e9rences significatives entre des demi-fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs et des fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs germains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les valeurs d'\u00e9levage estim\u00e9es (VEE) constituent une tentative de classification des informations sur tous les caract\u00e8res ph\u00e9notypiques observables en deux composantes : la g\u00e9n\u00e9tique et l'environnement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ph\u00e9notype = g\u00e9n\u00e9tique + environnement<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La valeur d'\u00e9levage (VE) est une valeur estim\u00e9e qui exprime la pr\u00e9disposition g\u00e9n\u00e9tique d'un animal \u00e0 un caract\u00e8re sp\u00e9cifique.
